For Schools

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)
Helping Students Build Real Career Pathways
SWC Training partners with schools, employers and industry to create meaningful career pathways through School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs).
An SBAT allows students to remain at school while completing paid employment and a nationally recognised qualification as part of a Traineeship or Apprenticeship. Students gain valuable workplace experience, develop industry skills and build a pathway into further employment or study.
Our workplace-based delivery model enables students to learn in real work environments while receiving support from their employer, school and SWC Trainer and Assessor.
Why Choose an SBAT?
Industries Available
SWC Training specialises in creating pathways into industries that offer meaningful and rewarding careers.
Industries may include:
- Hospitals and Healthcare
- Hospital Pharmacy
- Allied Health
- Health Administration
- Business and Leadership
- Hospitality and Retail (subject to state funding and availability)
We work closely with schools and employers to identify opportunities that align with local workforce needs and student interests..
Student Eligibility
Eligibility requirements for an SBAT vary between states and territories; however, students generally need to:
- Be enrolled in secondary school
- Meet the minimum age and school requirements in their state or territory
- Have the support of their school and parent or guardian
- Be employed in an appropriate workplace relevant to the qualification
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the chosen career pathway
Our team can provide advice on eligibility requirements specific to your state.
Our School Partnership Model
At SWC Training, we believe successful SBAT programs are built on strong partnerships between schools, employers and training providers.
We work collaboratively with schools to:
- Provide information sessions for students and parents
- Assist with career pathway planning
- Support the establishment of employment opportunities
- Coordinate enrolment and commencement processes
- Monitor student progress and engagement
- Maintain regular communication with schools and employers
Our aim is to make participation in an SBAT simple, supportive and rewarding for everyone involved.
Employer Partners
An SBAT requires a student to be employed in a relevant workplace.
Employment may be provided directly by an employer or, in some circumstances, through a Group Training Organisation (GTO), which employs the student and places them with a host employer.
SWC works closely with employers and GTO partners to identify opportunities that provide meaningful workplace experiences and support positive outcomes for students.
Available Programs
The qualifications available through an SBAT vary across states and territories and are dependent on funding and industry requirements.
