Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about studying with SWC Training.
What is a USI?
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your personal education number made up of 10 letters and numbers. It links all your nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) records in Australia.
Why do I need a USI?
You need a USI if you are:
- Studying nationally recognised VET courses
- Seeking a VET Student Loan
- A higher education student accessing Commonwealth financial assistance (e.g., HECS-HELP or Commonwealth Supported Place)
- Graduating from a higher education program
Your USI ensures all your qualifications and results are securely recorded and easily accessible.
How do I create my USI?
It only takes about 5 minutes! You’ll need valid identification, such as a birth certificate, driver’s licence, or passport, to create your USI through the USI Student Portal.
What support is available if I have a disability or experience disadvantage?
SWC is committed to supporting all students.
- If you’ve already started your course: contact your assessor or trainer.
- If you haven’t started yet: email us at info@swc.com.au to discuss your needs.
Support may include:
- Adjustments to training or assessments
- Flexible learning or assessment arrangements
- Additional time or alternative assessment methods
- Modified learning materials or formats
- Language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) support
- Referral to external services if needed
All support is confidential and tailored to your individual needs.
Can I get credit for previous study or experience?
Yes! SWC recognises your prior learning and qualifications through:
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Assesses your skills and knowledge gained through work or life experience
- Credit Transfer: Recognises units you have successfully completed in other courses
Please let your enrolment officer know about your previous qualifications – these will be reviewed as part of your course application.
Who can I contact for help?
If you need help or support at any stage of your training, please contact the SWC Training team. We can assist with course-related questions, progress, and any concerns you may have. We also offer support for wellbeing, language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), and learning needs, and can refer you to additional support services where appropriate to help you successfully complete your training
What do I need to do if I want to defer or discontinue my training?
If a student needs to defer or discontinue their training, they should contact SWC Training as soon as possible to discuss their situation. Requests must be provided in writing so we can ensure the appropriate records are updated.
Our team will explain the available options and any impacts on course progress, fees, refunds, or funding (where applicable), and will guide the student through the steps needed to formally confirm the deferment or withdrawal.
